River course

The course of the Río Timbiquí is located within the municipality of Timbiquí in the Department of Cauca . The Río Timbiquí rises on the northeast slope of the 3860  m high Cerro Napi in the Colombian western cordillera at an altitude of about 2500  m . It initially flows in a northerly direction through the mountains. After about 25 km it reaches the western Colombian coastal lowlands and turns towards west-northwest. Near the settlement of Santa Maria at river kilometer 40 the Río Timbiquí turns to the northwest. Shortly afterwards, at river kilometer 37, the river passes the settlement of San José on the right bank . At river kilometer 32, at the settlement of Corteje , the Río Corteje meets the Río Timibiquí coming from the east. The small town of Timbiquí is located on the right bank of the river, 10 km above the mouth. The Río Timbiquí turns on its last kilometers to the west and flows into a small bay on the Pacific coast. Before that, two estuary branches branch off to the north.
