The Río Tunjuelo is a small river in Colombia that flows in a north-westerly direction through the districts of Sumapaz , Usme , Ciudad Bolívar , Tunjuelito , Kennedy and Bosa in the capital Bogotá and, to a lesser extent, the neighboring municipality of Soacha .

Its source is in the mountains south of Usme district. Its entire river bed measures about two fifths of the Colombian capital. It has a length of 73 km and is the second largest river in the city after the Río Bogotá . In 1930 its water was channeled over a first aqueduct . The Río Tunjuelo is badly contaminated . It took more than 20 years for the authorities to take note of the miserable state of the water and to analyze it. And it was only in the early 2000s that the environmental authorities were able to help with appropriate "rescue measures".

A study by the local environmental agency in 1998 found that the Río Tunjuelo contains the most inorganic waste, from a total of three tributaries, all of which drain into the Río Bogotá. This fact had a significant impact on crop irrigation and the state of water in general because it was also taken for human consumption.
