History and sights

The former monastery of the Hildesheim Charterhouse , the so-called Röderhof , was first mentioned in 1382. The half-timbered chapel from 1670, consecrated to St. Antonius , belongs to it . The property is located in a depression in which the Carthusians built three fish ponds that are still in existence today . In the 1960s, a curative educational facility, the Röderhof home , was planned and built next to the estate . This was opened in 1971 and expanded in 1987 and 1996.

In the southern area of the property, which is still being managed, there has been a convent building since 2014 in the former youth meeting place (Röderhof 1). The St. Antonius Chapel is one of them. Since 2013, Benedikt Lindemann , among others, has been committed to founding a new Benedictine community at Röderhof, which was realized in April 2014 as the “Benedictine Community of St. Romuald”. Since March 2019, the monastery has belonged to the more contemplative and hermit-oriented Camaldolese order , which can be traced back to St. Romuald .

The Röderhof and the landscape are known for the tent camps that take place every year during the summer holidays. Camping has been going on at the Röderhof for more than 100 years. Camping at the Röderhof will continue after the youth meeting place was closed in 2013 with the support of Heimstatt Röderhof.
