The reddish tube-nosed bat ( Murina leucogaster ) is a mammal in the smooth-nosed family (Vespertilionidae) that is found in Asia . The taxon rubex is listed either as a subspecies or as a synonym . A future division of the stock into several types may be necessary.

features

This bat is the largest representative of the species in the range. It reaches an average forearm length of 42 mm, a tail length of 40 mm and a weight of 9 g. The ears are rather short and narrow with a length of about 14 mm. The hair on the top is dark near the root and reddish brown at the tips. The underside, on the other hand, is covered with yellow-white hair, which can have a dark base on the side. As with all members of the genus, the nostrils are tubular. One nasal sheet is missing. The canines are only slightly higher than the front premier teeth and the first premier tooth is significantly smaller than the following.

Distribution and way of life

According to the IUCN , only finds from eastern China , the Indian state of West Bengal and Vietnam are clearly identified as reddish tube-nosed bat. Other finds from Nepal , Bhutan , Thailand , Mongolia , South Korea , Japan and Russia presumably represent other members of the genus. The reddish tube-nosed bat occurs between 700 and 2133 meters and lives in forests and in open landscapes.

Caves, tree hollows and buildings serve as resting places. The animals hibernate in the cold season , with a larger group resting close together.

status

Because the taxonomic situation has not been fully clarified, the effects of changes in the landscape on the population cannot be estimated. There are several nature reserves in the distribution area. Since the reddish tube-nosed bat occurs very frequently in certain areas, it is listed by the IUCN as Least Concern .
