Rø is a small municipality in the northern part of Bornholm , about two kilometers from the coast at Helligdommen and about seven kilometers west of Gudhjem .
The village, the church belong to a non unusual for Bornholm Westwerk provided Rø Kirke and eleven streets, most attractions are outside the town. In 2007 Danmarks Statistics counted 181 inhabitants.
history
Rø is Bornholm's smallest parish and has been known as "det røde sogn" (the red parish) since the 14th century because of the red roof of the old church. In addition to the church, the village consists practically only of the Kirkeskolen school from 1840, the rectory and Rø Mølle , a listed Dutch windmill next to the country trade.
railroad
From 1913 to 1953, Rø was a stop on the Allingebanen railway from Rønne to Allinge-Sandvig . With the construction of the railway, the place experienced a huge economic boom.
The old station building has been preserved as a residential building at Rø Stationsvej 5. A seven-kilometer path leads from Røvej along the former railway line through the narrow cleft valley of Kleven to Klemensker .
school
After the primary school in Rø was merged with Østerlars-Gudhjem Skole, there was a special school for the mentally handicapped for a few years.
Land trade
Bornholm's last land trade existed in Rø until 2009.
Culture
Bornholms Musik Festival, Denmark's oldest music festival, had its office in Rø. Since 1968 concerts have been held in churches, particularly in Rø, Aakirkeby and Østermarie .
Artists and craftsmen can also be found in town.
Attractions
