Røldal
Røldal is a village in the municipality of Ullensvang on the edge of the Hardangervidda in western Norway with around 600 inhabitants.
The main attraction is Røldal Stave Church .
history
Røldal was an independent municipality in Hordaland until 1964 . The merger with Odda took place on January 1, 1964, Røldal had 676 inhabitants at that time. In 2020 Odda came to Ullensvang.
economy
The main source of income for the population is agriculture . Røldal is known for the goat cheese produced here ( Norwegian Ekte Geitost ). In the 1960s, some power plants were built in the area around Røldal , which initiated a certain economic boom . Even today, some residents are still employed in the energy industry.
Another branch of the economy is tourism . The ski center ( Røldal skisenter ) has four drag lifts and a chair lift and is one of the most snow-reliable ski areas in Norway.
