The Rüdesheimer Aue is an inland island in the Rhine near Rüdesheim . It belongs to a series of Rhine islands, the Rheinauen , between Mainz and Bingen .
Geographical location
The Rüdesheimer Aue belongs to the district of Rüdesheim am Rhein in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis and is part of the Inselrhein . It is located 200 meters from the Rüdesheimer Ufer above Rhine kilometer 526 on the right bank of the Rhine from the main fairway and separates it from the access to the Rüdesheimer Hafen and from the berths of the river cruise ships . The height of the island is between 78 and 84 and on average 81 meters. At the upper and lower ends, the island is lengthened by longitudinal works on which landing processes have taken place.
history
The Rüdesheimer Aue used to be partly used for agriculture. There were areas for growing fruit and vegetables. A pillar of the Hindenburg Bridge stood on the upper tip of the island .
nature
The island is a nature reserve and FFH area . It consists of remains of alluvial forest, sandbanks and silt areas. Due to succession , it is now completely covered with trees. It has supraregional importance as a stepping stone for resting and wintering water bird species and is a valuable location for the extremely rare alluvial forest vegetation.
The island is a proven breeding ground for black kites and lapwing . As wandering or resting animals there the following bird species detected were kingfishers , whooper swan , Smew , osprey , Ruff , Common Teal , Greylag Goose , Bean Goose , Pochard , Tufted Duck , White-fronted Goose , Common Goldeneye , Common Merganser , Red-breasted Merganser and redshank .
