Rüdiger Barth (engineer)

Rüdiger Barth (born August 30, 1937 in Rinteln ; † November 23, 2012 ) was a German engineer and developer in the field of sound technology . He played a major role in the development of multi-track recording technology and digital radio automation .

In the early 1970s, Barth and Hans Falkenberg , a sound engineer at Deutsche Grammophon , presented the first 8-track recording device in Germany. He equipped well-known studios with multi-track recording technology and mixing consoles , including Conny Planks Studio in Sauerland, the Cornet Studio and one of the EMI production studios in Cologne, Ralf Arnie's Star Studio , Peter von Zahn's Windrose Studio, the Rhenus Studio in Cologne, the Briton Studios in Frankfurt as well as Gitte Haenning's Copenhagen studio, the Powerplay Studio Zurich and the studio of Andreas Vollenweideron Lake Zurich. For ARRI in Munich , he delivered the world's first fully automated film-sound mixing studio including the Dolby Surround monitoring control.

In 1986 Barth equipped the studio for Radio Schleswig-Holstein , the first nationwide private radio program in Germany.

With the DIGISPOT® radio system, Barth developed one of the world's first digital radio operating systems in 1991 . This system made it possible for the first time to save music, jingles , station IDs and news items as text and sound in a central network storage system for editing and broadcasting on the basis of a content management database and for all workstations provided over the network. It was also the basis for the first pure news radio studio infoRadio in Berlin, which was able to produce and run a radio program in 1992 without tape and paper, and was already used in many private radio stations across Europe, ARD and BBC in 1995 .

Rüdiger Barth died on November 23, 2012 as a result of a serious accident.
