Rudiger Pape

Rüdiger Pape (* 1960 in Salzgitter ) is a German theater and opera director .

Life

Rüdiger Pape studied applied cultural studies at the University of Hildesheim and then worked as assistant director at the Theater der Stadt Heidelberg, the Stadttheater Konstanz and the Staatstheater Hannover.

From 1993 to 1996 he was director of the Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Theater in Bernburg an der Saale . He then worked for two years as in-house director and program director of the open-air theater at the Thalia Theater in Halle . Since 1998 he has worked as a freelance director in Bregenz, Bremen, Dresden, Halle, Heidelberg, Cologne, Konstanz, Mannheim, Oldenburg, Uppsala and Zurich. Since 2007 he has been part of the permanent directing team of the independent theater in the building tower in Cologne. Rüdiger Pape stages for children, young people and adults. In 2005 he made his debut as an opera director at the Handel Festival in Halle with the Handel opera Amadigi .

His production of the Nibelungs at the Comedia Theater in Cologne was awarded the 2006 Theater Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Also with the Nibelungs, he was nominated for the German Theater Prize “Der Faust” in the category “Best Director” in children's and youth theater. His production of Mrs. Meier, the blackbird based on the picture book by Wolf Erlbruch for the Marabu Theater in Bonn was awarded the 2011 NRW Children's and Youth Theater Prize. Rüdiger Pape lives in Cologne with his wife and three children.
