The locomotives of the RŽD series ТЭРА1 (German transcription TERA1 ) of the Russian Railways (RŽD) are wide-gauge diesel locomotives with electrical power transmission primarily for freight train service on non-electrified lines. The locomotives were manufactured in 1998 by the Lyudinowo diesel locomotive factory together with the North American company GM and use what is known as mixed current technology ; the locomotive's traction generator connected to the diesel engine generates alternating current , and the traction motors work with direct current . In operational service, the locomotive is intended for service on the railway lines in the post-Soviet area and can also be used for export to other countries.

construction

Mechanical part

The diesel locomotive has a box structure with a driver's cab on both sides. The frame and structure together form a self-supporting unit . The frame is rigid and has a solid welded construction. The load on the axle bearings is transferred to the two four-axle bogies via a two-stage spring suspension. These are made on the basis of the ТЭМ7 series bogies , the difference from this is that the traction drive motors are of American origin. The bearings of the drive mechanism are automatically lubricated.

Power unit

The power unit of the diesel locomotive includes the 16-cylinder two-stroke turbocharged diesel engine of the type 16-710G3B and the connected traction generator for alternating current AR11 / SA6A . The diesel engine and traction generator are connected to one another via an elastic flange coupling. The traction generator consists of the traction generator AR11WBA , the alternating current generator for your own use with the designation CA6AS and the rectifier unit. The diesel engine is started using two electric starters.

The exhaust gas cleaning of the diesel engine is two-stage. After the air has been pre-cleaned in filters, it passes through additional filters at the inlet to the diesel engine's turbocharger. The exhaust air systems of the diesel engine consist of the exhaust collector, the turbine part of the turbocharger and the silencer.

The fuel systems include the electric drive fuel transfer pump, fuel filter, fuel preheater and piping.

The lubrication systems consist of three oil pumps, an oil filter, an oil priming pump with an electric drive, an oil cooler and pipes.

The cooling system of the diesel engine consists of two centrifugal pumps, the water tank, radiators of the cooling devices, fuel preheaters, oil coolers based on heat exchangers and pipes.

Cooling systems of the electrical units

This system includes two fixed filters for the cooling air and filters for two-stage air cleaning for the cooling air. The air is cleaned by a double centrifugal fan that is driven by a shaft of the auxiliary generator. Drainage systems are located in the main frame of the locomotive and on its side surfaces. A fan controls the air in the drainer, which is arranged in the frame. From then on, the main part of the air reaches the traction electric drive motors via ducts. The other fan controls the air for cooling the traction units (traction generators and rectifier unit).

Electrical equipment

The power transmission takes place via the so-called mixed current technology ; an alternating current generator supplies power for the direct current traction motors. As is customary with large European diesel locomotives, the field weakening is not applied when changing over to greater speed , instead the rectifier bridges are switched over. The main generator is designed as in the 2ТЭ116 series and has two star-shaped windings. Each of these windings feeds its associated rectifier bridge. At lower speeds, the rectifier bridges are parallel connected and supplied to the traction motors driving current is greater than 8 kA, at high speeds provides a valve automatically transition to the series circuit of the bridges forth, therefore, the tension is doubled for the driving motors.

Cooling device of the diesel locomotive

These devices are designed in the manner of separate blocks and represent two water-air radiators , three two-speed fans with electric drive, pipes and blinds .

Braking device

A friction pad brake of three types is used on the locomotive ; the pneumatic automatic indirect air brake is used to brake the train unit, the direct air brake is used to brake the locomotive alone, and a hand brake is used as the parking brake. The locomotive also has an electric brake .
