The SŽD class AA locomotive of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) was a wide-gauge experimental diesel locomotive for shunting and light line service. The machine was built in 1933. Its name was derived from Andrei Andrejewitsch Andrejew . A mass production of the locomotive did not materialize.
description
The locomotive was built in the Kaluga machine factory at the end of 1933. It was intended for shunting service and the management of light suburban trains. A six-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine of the type 6D22 / 28 ( 6D22 / 28 ) was provided as the drive system , that is, this engine had a cylinder diameter of 220 mm and a piston stroke of 280 mm. With a crankshaft speed of 650 rpm, it achieved an output of 300 hp. The design and construction of similar engines was carried out on the construction of Jakow Modestowitsch Gakkel , the designer of the first diesel locomotive in the Soviet Union , the Щэл1 . Many elements of the new diesel locomotive show this. The cooling was carried out by Gakkel based on analog diesel locomotives .
The torque was transferred from the crankshaft of the engine to a mechanical transmission, which enabled four speed levels. At the output of the mechanical gear there was a jackshaft, from which the drive wheels were driven via a rod gear. At the highest speed level, the locomotive was able to reach 51 km / h in test drives.
A special feature of the locomotive was that a number of elements of the steam locomotive O were used in its project planning (brake, wheel bearings, spring suspension), which made maintenance easier.
Overall, the diesel locomotive completed a few test drives, during which some defects in the engine were discovered. As a result, the locomotive was not used as planned. Retirement dates are not known.
