Ferry Point is a small settlement on the south coast of the Dornoch Firth in northern Scotland . It is located on the northwest tip of the Ness of Portnaculter peninsula in the area of the Community Council Area of Tain , administratively it belongs to the Council Area Highland . Ferry Point got its name because from here the Meikle Ferry , a ferry connection , led to the Meikle Ferry Pier on the opposite bank. It ceased operations in 1957.

In the area of Ferry Point the British Air Force operated under the name RAF Meikle Ferry from February 1942 to February 1946 a military base for the maintenance of seaplanes from their locations in Invergordon and Alness , and speedboats were also stationed for sea rescue . The central building, a maintenance hall with a striking observation tower, was used commercially after various renovations and continues to shape the townscape today. Other buildings from the military era are still there and serve civilian purposes. This also includes six so-called handcraft huts , octagonal, standardized functional buildings with outer walls made of asbestos .
