In 1982 the Arth-Rigi-Bahn (ARB) put a BDhe 4/4 15 cogwheel railcar into operation. In 1986 the Vitznau-Rigi-Bahn (VRB) received two identical trains 21-22. All three vehicles are now owned by Rigi-Bahnen (RB) and are used for scheduled traffic.

history

In 1978 the Arth-Rigi-Bahn awarded the SLM and the BBC the contract for the construction of a new composition consisting of the BDhe 4/4 15 railcar and the Bt 25 control car. The railcar corresponded almost exactly to the BDhe 2/4 11-14 , however, new regulations have been taken into account. New developments in wagon construction were also adopted. In addition, the railcar was equipped with four engines and received translating instead of lowered windows. The side walls were newly beaded.

After the four motor vehicles Bhe 2/4 1-4 and the BDhe 4/4 5 as well as the He 2/2 18 no longer met the increasing number of visitors, the VRB board of directors decided to purchase two shuttle trains, identical in construction to the ARB BDhe 4 / 4 15. Before the new trains for VRB could be delivered, the turntable in Vitznau had to be enlarged. A 10th siding was also created along the depot after the bank section was expanded. The new trains were assembled at the ARB in Arth-Goldau, the VRB staff were trained on the same ARB train before the two trains were put into operation. On June 21, 1986, the two new shuttle trains could be inaugurated on the occasion of the 115th birthday of the VRB.

The trains of the VRB differ in the design of the passenger area and some adjustments to the operating concept for one-man operation compared to the train of the ARB.

Through the merger of the VRB with the ARB to form Rigi-Bahn , the compositions came into the possession of the new company.

Possible uses

The motor vehicles are mainly used with the associated control vehicles. However, freight cars can also be coupled to both control and motor vehicles; the motor vehicles are used alone for heavy-duty operations. With an adapter coupling, the historic presentation cars can also be pushed off the motor cars. Thanks to the analogy, the trains can be operated by ARB and VRB staff, which facilitates the frequency-related exchange of rolling stock and staff.

Technical

The two-axle bogies with the motors and the brakes are each driven on both axles. The sequence of letters "he" means that it is a purely electric cogwheel vehicle.

In winter, brackets are attached to the side walls of the railcars and control cars so that the skis can be stowed on the outside of the vehicle.

Coloring

The original color scheme at ARB was white in the window area and blue in the lower area. The color scheme was later adjusted, the window area was light blue, against the floor of the car white with light blue dots tapering off.

The two trains of the VRB were originally delivered in red with a narrow pink ribbon above and a wide pink ribbon below the window area. The color scheme was later adjusted to match the ARB railcar, the main color red of the VRB was retained.

The new paint is also known as the "Snowflake paint".

Trivia

  • Similar to the ARB BDhe 4/4 15, the VRB BDhe 4/4 21 has round headlights on the front, but the BDhe 4/4 22 has angular ones. This is the only difference between the two compositions
  • The two compositions of VRB are their color after as Beeri or Erdbeeri referred
  • Due to the power and the maximum loading capacity, the motor vehicle can be presented with a maximum of two loading vehicles
