Adam Betzel

Adam Betzel (born July 7, 1839 in Fuchsstadt , † February 27, 1922 in Munich ) was a Bavarian major general .

Life

Betzel was the son of a privateer . He graduated from vocational school and on September 21, 1856 volunteered in the 2nd Artillery Regiment of the Bavarian Army . There he was promoted to second lieutenant in 1861 . As a prime lieutenant , Betzel took part in the battles near Zella , Hammelburg , Helmstadt and Hettstadt in 1866 during the war against Prussia at the battery "Freiherr von Lottersberg" . In 1869 he was promoted to battalion adjutant. In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, Betzel was a regimental adjutant in the Artillery Reserve Department of the II Army Corps and was deployed in Weißenburg , Wörth , Marsal , Sedan and in the enclosure and siege of Paris . Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, Betzel returned to the garrison in Würzburg .

When he was promoted to captain on April 25, 1875, he became chief of the 2nd company in the 2nd foot artillery regiment . During the visit the fortress of Metz by Kaiser Wilhelm II. 1879 led Betzel the guard of honor . Transferred to the 2nd field artillery regiment as battery chief in 1880 , he returned two years later to the 2nd foot artillery regiment. On March 20, 1884, he was transferred as a major and staff officer to the 1st foot artillery regiment "Bothmer" . Here took Betzel on 3 October 1886, the first battalion was on 10 November 1887 artillery officer from the square of the federal fortress Ulm appointed and in that capacity in 1888 to lieutenant colonel and in 1890 for Colonel promoted. As such, he was from May 10, 1891 to November 14, 1895 commander of the 1st foot artillery regiment "vacant Bothmer" and was then promoted to major general commander of the Ingolstadt fortress . On July 15, 1898, he was put up for disposal .

During his long service, Betzel had received several awards for his achievements. He was the holder of the Military Merit Order II. Class, the Order of Merit of St. Michael IV. Class, the Order of the Crown III. Class as well as the Commander First Class of the Frederick Order .
