Excelsior Mouscron was a football club from Mouscron , Belgium , which no longer took part in the First Division in 2009 after the Belgian Football Association was suspended . In 2010 Excelsior Mouscron merged with RRC Péruwelz to form Royal Mouscron-Péruwelz .
history
The association was formed in 1964 from the merger of ARA Mouscronnais and Stade Mouscron.
On December 28, 2009, the Belgian association pronounced a suspension against Excelsior Mouscron, which is tantamount to a forced relegation to the Belgian third division. The club previously announced that it would not be able to muster a team in the league game that took place two days later for the third time in a row. All league games of the 2009/10 season in which the team participated have been canceled. On the same day, the club announced that all players could change clubs on a free transfer. January 2010 a merger with RRC Péruwelz to Royal Mouscron-Péruwelz was decided. The new club will play fourth class in the 2010/11 season.
Excelsior Mouscron played at the Stade Le Canonnier , which has a seating capacity of 11,300.
successes
Mouscron played 14 years (1996 / 97-2009 / 10) in the Belgian first division. In the first season, the team caused a sensation, as they temporarily held the championship lead as a promoted team and played for the title. Mouscron finally finished third in 1996/97, which would ultimately be the greatest success of the club's first division, and moved into the UEFA Cup . Here Mouscron only reached the first main round. In 2002 and 2006, the team reached the Belgian Cup final, but lost both times. In the 2002/03 season Excelsior played again four games in the UEFA Cup.
