RSWBplus is a literature database from the Fraunhofer Information Center for Space and Building IRB . It consists of the partial databases RSWB and ICONDA Bibliographic and contains literature references on the topics of planning and building.

history

In 1976 the data acquisition for the RSWB database began, since then there has been a continuous evaluation of the relevant specialist literature, which leads to a constant growth of the data stock. From 1977 RSWB was offered for online inquiries. The development work for the ICONDA database began in 1984 and was made available to the public in 1986. Since 1991 the data stocks of both databases have been offered in a common search interface under the name RSWBplus. At the end of 2017, the separate search interface for the RSWB sub-database was discontinued.

Database

RSWBplus consists of the two sub-databases RSWB (national) and ICONDA Bibliographic (international). RSWB is the abbreviation for the topics covered: " Spatial planning , urban development , housing , construction " - ICONDA stands for "The International CONstruction DAtabase".

RSWBplus is produced and published by the Fraunhofer Information Center for Space and Building IRB and contains over 1.5 million references with extensive bibliographic metadata and descriptions of the content. The selection of literature and the indexing of the content is carried out by specialist speakers.

In particular, the database can be used to search for specialist literature that is difficult or impossible to find using library catalogs, including individual contributions from specialist journals , conference and conference proceedings and scientific compilations, as well as gray literature such as research reports, leaflets, guidelines, legal articles, institute series and dissertations.

The research offer for construction literature is aimed in particular at students, lecturers, scientists and librarians at universities with construction-related courses ( architecture , civil engineering , urban planning, etc.) as well as those responsible for planning or construction tasks.

subjects

From the topic of planning and building, the database shows primarily literature on the following subject areas:

Architecture, building design, competitions, draft, building construction, building details, building physics, building materials, new materials, building law, building standards (DIN, SIA, ÖNORM), regulations, guidelines, building maintenance, building damage, repair, renovation, monument preservation, technical building equipment (TGA), Technical expansion, energy-saving construction, energy efficiency, sustainability, digital planning and construction, building information modeling (BIM), structural engineering, structural planning, geotechnical engineering, foundation engineering, hydraulic engineering, water management, road construction, traffic planning, urban development planning, urban and regional planning and neighborhood research.

Research

The research interface of the Fraunhofer IRB offers u. a. The following functionalities for a scientific literature search: German and English language usage environment, free text search with relevance ranking, advanced search with Boolean operators , placeholder for right truncation of search terms, thesaurus , subject structure, journal list, search history, highlighting of the search terms entered in the results, filter hits with facets , Sort hits, watch list, data output for further processing in reference management programs, etc.

The indexing is done in great depth of content, thus the search results include extensive content descriptions such as. Tags more categories, abstracts and technical areas of RSWBplus's own classification. These support the user with research and relevance assessment for the respective question.

Full texts

In addition to researching this specialist information , the literature service and document delivery service of the Fraunhofer IRB are available for the procurement of publications, e.g. B. for ordering books and article copies. Many literature references are also enriched with direct links to the associated electronic full texts.

Most of the documented publications can be found in the institute's own building library in Stuttgart-Vaihingen and can be viewed there.

University libraries and other institutional users have the option of implementing a link resolver in their hit view in order to carry out a comparison with their holdings and licenses.

Access

Most universities in German-speaking countries that offer courses in the field of planning and construction have licensed access to RSWBplus for their university members via an annual subscription. This access takes place either via the Fraunhofer IRB's own research interface itself or via the host WTI-Frankfurt.

Individual users as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can license the database at WTI-Frankfurt for shorter periods of time.
