RTP África is an antenna-based television channel for the Portuguese-speaking countries of Africa that has existed since 1998 and is owned by the Portuguese telecommunications company Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP). The program comes from public and private TV channels in Portugal and from African public channels. RTP África has its own news, nutrition and music shows. The station was specially designed for the lusophonic (Portuguese-speaking) countries of Africa Angola , Equatorial Guinea , Guinea-Bissau , Cape Verde , Mozambique , São Tomé and Príncipe and the cultural exchange between them and Portugal as well as for the Portuguese-born populations of these countries. According to an agreement, RTP África also broadcasts Portuguese dubbed United Nations programs .

The Prime Time - news program of RTP, Repórter África , focuses on daily news for these five Lusophone countries. It is often the only independent news source in these countries and has therefore been criticized by regimes there, in particular the government of São Tomé and Príncipe and the former regime of Guinea-Bissau. In Guinea-Bissau the station has already been taken out of service for a few weeks because of "uncontrolled news distribution". Fórum Africa is a weekly interview program produced by RTP's five African delegations.

Música d'África , broadcast from Mozambique, is the broadcaster's music show, with African music video clips and music reports. There are also local music showswith Massave from Mozambique and Top Crioulo from Cape Verde. Artes e Espectáculos is an arts program that comes from Cape Verde and Latitudes is a cultural program that relates to the African migrant community in Portugal.

RTP also broadcasts soap operas , feature films, series, documentaries and African entertainment shows. In Africa, the station is best known for its broadcasts on the Portuguese Football League , as most football fans in the African countries concerned are supporters of Portuguese clubs. The station is also known for its cooking shows Na Roça com os Tachos from São Tomé (international title: The Cooking of the Enchanted Islands ) and Moamba from Angola.
