Raúl de Anda
Raúl de Anda Gutiérrez (born July 1, 1908 in Mexico City , † February 2, 1997 ibid) was a Mexican film director , actor , screenwriter and film producer . He was best known for his Charro Negro film series.
Life
Raúl de Anda Gutiérrez was born on July 1, 1908 in Mexico City. He came from a family that was considered an equestrian dynasty. At the age of 17, de Anda pursued family tradition by joining the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus as a rider . He toured with the circus in Mexico, Central America, the United States and Spain.
De Anda had his first contact with the film industry in Los Angeles in 1930 . He worked there as an extra on various films. After returning to Mexico, he was an actor in some of the first sound films in the country. In 1931 he had a small role in Santa , the first Mexican sound film ever. He also had minor appearances in the successful films El prisionero trece and Vámonos con Pancho Villa by Fernando de Fuentes .
In 1937 de Anda founded his production company, Producciones Raúl de Anda . The first film produced by them was Almas rebeldes , the debut film by director Alejandro Galindo and actor Víctor Manuel Mendoza . The following year, de Anda made his debut as a director with the Ranchera La tierra del mariachi . In 1940 he made El Charro Negro , with whose protagonists he played his most successful role. With La vuelta del Charro Negro and La venganza del Charro Negro in 1941 and El Charro Negro en el norte in 1949, de Anda shot three sequels . He has worked with many important actors in Mexican cinema . He was no longer active as an actor from the 1950s, but remained active as a director and producer until the end of the 1980s. In 1991 de Anda was awarded the Mexican Ariel de Oro Film Award for his lifetime achievement. He died on February 2, 1997 in Mexico City.
Raúl de Anda had five sons who were also active in the film industry: Agustín de Anda , Raúl de Anda jr. , Rodolfo de Anda , Antonio de Anda and Gilberto de Anda .
