On the Rabensteiner Viaduct

The Rabensteiner Viaduct is a railway bridge on the former Limbach – Wüstenbrand railway line in Chemnitz-Rabenstein in the Free State of Saxony . The Rabensteiner Viaduct was one of the first bridges to use high-quality steel instead of iron .

The viaduct was built in 1896 and 1897. The construction costs amounted to 190,836 marks , the half-timbered construction between the brick abutments consists of 225 tons of steel.

The last train crossed the bridge in 1950, after which the tracks were dismantled. The superstructure material came to the Fleetmark station on the Stendal – Uelzen railway line to be used for repairs.

The viaduct has been a listed building since 1986, and the railway line is now used as a hiking trail.
