Raboso

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Raboso is a family of red wines that comes from Veneto and northeastern Italy and is probably named after the Raboso river, which is a tributary of the Piave . Another theory suggests that it derives from it. rabbioso (wild, angry) from, presumably because of the tart, sour taste.

At the same time, the name is used for DOC and country wines from the provinces of Vicenza , Padua , Treviso and Venice made from these grapes .

There are two variants

The red wines of both types are very acidic and tannin-rich , intensely colored and rather low in alcohol. In their youth, the wines are strongly astringent.

Both vines are used for the Raboso wine from the Piave Valley. In the Colli Euganei DOC wine-growing region in the Euganean Hills , on the other hand, only the Raboso Veronese variant is found. A frizzante is also made from the Raboso vine . Cuvées with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are more common than pure Raboso wines .

There is also a white Raboso grape variety; however, it is hardly used for wine production any more.

Outside of Italy , Raboso Veronese is still grown in Argentina . See also the list of grape varieties .
