Rachel House
Rachel Jessica Te Ao Maarama House ONZM (born October 20, 1971 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand actress and director .
Life
House was born in Auckland in 1971 and grew up in Kamo , Whangarei with adoptive parents John and Sheila House, who were British immigrants from Glasgow . Her birth parents were Māori (Ngati Mutunga and Ngai Tahu) and European Pākehā .
She attended the New Zealand National Acting School Toi Whakaari . From here she went to stage work with Pacific Underground Theater and Auckland Theater Company. In 1995 she won the Chapman Tripp Most Promising Female Newcomer of the Year Award for her performance in Briar Grace-Smith's Nga Pou Wahine series . This was followed by further awards in 2002 (Most Outstanding Performance) for Witi Ihimaera critically acclaimed Woman Far Walking and 2003 (Best Supporting Actress) by playing in Henrik Ibsen's Ein Volksfeind . She has appeared in several major productions known both nationally and internationally, including Hone Koukas Waiora, Carol Anne Duffy's "The Worlds Wife" and the British / New Zealand coproduction of "Beauty and the Beast". House's film work included roles in Whale Rider , Eagle vs Shark - Love in New Zealand , Boy and White Lies . Her television appearances have included Maddigan's Quest and Gaylene Preston's series Hope and Wire . Jason Buchanan of the Rovi Company said of her, “While she doesn't have to be Hollywood-looking, House can portray an undeniably different person on screen and only display the kind of charisma that could provide the foundation for a lasting career. “In 2016, House appeared in Taika Waititi's feature film Where the Wild Men Hunt . The film became the top New Zealand film of all time at the New Zealand box office. In July 2016 it was announced that House would speak the character of Gramma Tala in the November 2016 Disney animated film Vaiana - Paradise has a catch (original title: Moana). In 2017, she took on the role of Topaz in the Marvel film version Thor: Decision Day .
successes
House attended the Prague Film School in 2008 and received the Best Director Award and Best Film Audience Award for her two short films made while studying there. In 2012 House performed the Māori-language version of Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida , which was held at London's Globe Theater as part of an international series. For this she received the Production of the Year Award and the Director of the Year Award at the Chapman Tripp Theater Awards. Other theater directing credits include the award-winning production of Hinepau, adjusted the House and Gavin Bishop's original book and has both nationally and made international, Neil LaBute's play Mercy Seat ( Throne of Grace ) and Hui of the long-term employees Mitch Tawhi Thomas, premiered at the Auckland Arts. Achievements: In 2012 House received the New Zealand Arts Foundation's Laureate Award, given as an investment in excellence across a range of art forms to an artist with prominent and outstanding potential for future creation. In 2016 House received the WIFT Mana Wāhine Award, which is presented by WIFT (Woman in film and television).
