Life & Career

Rachel Schmidt was born on December 2, 1994 in the city of Hamilton, around 100 kilometers south of the New Zealand city of Auckland . At a young age, she began trampoline gymnastics with her brother Callum, who was around two years older than her, and soon afterwards she was accompanied by her brother Dylan, who was around three years younger. They came into contact with trampoline for the first time through a small club on New Zealand's South Island , where they did not compete in competitions, but only practiced on the trampoline for fun. Very early in their career, the three siblings were among the best young trampoline gymnasts in their home country and during this time they already took part in the New Zealand Trampoline Nationals , where they regularly won medals.

After the family moved to the small town of Waihi on the North Island around 2003 , the parents registered their three children with the Extreme Trampolining Club in Auckland. Rachel Schmidt was trained there by Angie Dougal and was usually used in the disciplines of singles on the trampoline as well as synchronized jumping and the double mini trampoline. Since she continued to live in Waihi and completed her schooling at Waihi College , she had to train between three and four times a week in Auckland, around 150 kilometers away. Rachel Schmidt also achieved further successes at the Australian Trampolining Championship , where she won the silver medal in synchronized jumping in the U-15 class in 2009. She contested this with her long-time friend Georgina "Georgie" Robertson , with whom she had been competing in synchronized jumping at junior level for some time and who won the gold medal in the individual jumping of this competition. When Australian Youth Olympic Festival of 2009, Schmidt also stepped to the side of Robertson in the synchronized diving in appearance, with the duo only the sixth ranked seven places. While Robertson took twelfth of 15 places in the individual competition, Schmidt only made it to 14th and penultimate place. Also in 2009, Rachel Schmidt was a finalist in the Junior Sportswoman of the Year election at the Waikato Times Secondary School Sports Awards .

In 2011 Rachel Schmidt took part in the World Championships in trampoline gymnastics in 2011 in Birmingham , where she could not qualify for the main round in individual or synchronized jumping, where she competed with veteran Kyle Walker , or in team competition. After that, Schmidt continued to appear in various competitions and won her third national championship title in September 2012. While she took first place in individual jumping, she made third place in synchronized jumping with her partner. Then she took part in the Indo Pacific Championships in Sydney for the second time in her career , where she took second place in individual jumping, fourth place in synchronized jumping and, with her home country, first place in the team classification. Schmidt won the National Secondary School Championships just over a month earlier . After that, she still prepared for various competitions, but over the years withdrew more and more from the international level and rather acted again on the national level. It was not until 2017 that she returned to the international level when she finished 21st in the qualification at the second part of the FIG World Cup 2017 in Minsk and thus did not take part in the main competition.
