Radjo Monk

Radjo Monk (* 1959 in Hainichen as Christian Heckel) is a poet and video artist .

Life

Monk attended the polytechnic high school in Hainichen, then completed an apprenticeship at the municipal theaters in Karl-Marx-Stadt (today Chemnitz ) as a skilled worker for theater technology. He began to write in 1974 and was initially funded, but his successful application to the Literature Institute from 1984 was canceled on the instructions of the MfS .

In the 1980s Monk wrote for various underground publications and rock bands such as Peter Gläser , appeared as a poet with musicians such as Erwin Stache in clubs and galleries , and got by with various jobs.

After 1989 he published several volumes of poetry and worked for radio and stage. Together with the photographer Edith Tar , he has realized numerous exhibitions and artistic projects since 1988, which often came about during extensive trips through European regions. Radjo Monk took part in the German-Polish poetry festival in Leipzig and Lublin and translated poetry by Dominik Opolski for the German-Polish anthology Lubliner Lift and contributed to the publication of the CD of the same name.

Radjo Monk has received several grants, most recently in 2009 at the International Künstlerhaus in Munich. He is a member of the authors' circle of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Writers' Association of the FRG, the authors' association ASSO Dresden and the Literary Society of Thuringia. Radjo Monk lives and works with the artist Edith Tar.
