"Ruling Class - Ruling Culture"

Raewyn Connell, the sociology professor at Macquarie University, published her book "Ruling Class - Ruling Culture" (1977), which was also internationally acclaimed at the time. In its self-image, the approach is an anti- bullshit sociology of the “ Aussie ” society ( Alphons Silbermann ), politically oriented towards Antonio Gramsci's concept of hegemony and sociologically oriented towards Charles Wright Mill's elite- critical sociology of power. Connell calls for a differentiated class analysis of Australian society, in a partly polemical dispute with (until the mid-1970s) social structure analyzes by Australian sociologists. Case studies of the ruling class of the fifth continent and their “ ruling culture ” follow . This is presented in four sections: (i) introduction, it comes to empirical evidence for certain by early experiences and childhood class consciousness, then (ii) personal socialization and to (iii) media certain middle-class styles ( " middle-class culture "), eventually Looking ahead to (iv) the question called “ pattern of hegemony ”: Who (controls) whom?
