Raghu Vira

Raghu Vira ( Hindi रघु वीर Raghu Vīra ; born December 30, 1902 in Rawalpindi , † May 14, 1963 near Kanpur , Uttar Pradesh ) was an Indian Indologist and politician.

Life

Raghu Vira was founding director of the International Academy of Indian Culture in Lahore from 1934 . He was the editor of the classical texts in Sanskrit and Pali . Vira is best known as the author of India and Asia and the editor of the Satapitaka book series ( Śata-piṭaka Series ), which is continued by his son Lokesh Chandra . The series has been published in New Delhi since 1957 and comprises over 600 volumes.

From 1948 to 1950 he was a member of the Constituent Assembly of India (Constituent Assembly of India) and was in the 1952 Rajya Sabha elected. In December 1962 he became chairman of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh . He died in a car accident near Kanpur while campaigning for Ram Manohar Lohia .
