history

Raiffeisenbank Obwalden was created on January 1, 2014 through the merger of Raiffeisenbank Sachseln with Raiffeisenbank Alpnach-Kerns-Sarnen.

Raiffeisenbank Sachseln

A loan office was founded in Sachseln in 1939, the name of which was later changed to Raiffeisenkasse and finally to Raiffeisenbank Sachseln . In 1998 Raiffeisenbank Sachseln opened an office in Giswil and in 2012 one in Lungern .

Raiffeisenbank Alpnach-Kerns-Sarnen

The Raiffeisenbank Alpnach-Kerns-Sarnen emerged from the banks in Alpnach and Kerns and Melchtal . Raiffeisenbank Alpnach was founded in 1931 as the Alpnach loan office. It was run as a typical bench by the manager at the time, Jakob Villiger, in his house. 1974/75 own bank rooms were built at Bahnhofstrasse 1 in Alpnach. In 1980 it was renamed Raiffeisenbank Alpnach-Kägiswil with the expansion to Kägiswil . Raiffeisenbank Kerns was founded in 1945 and merged with Raiffeisenbank Alpnach-Kägiswil on January 1, 1998.

The two Raiffeisen banks Alpnach-Kägiswil and Kerns opened a new branch in the canton capital Sarnen at Bahnhofplatz on November 4, 1997 before their merger in 1998 to form Raiffeisenbank Alpnach-Kerns-Sarnen .

The Raiffeisenkasse Melchtal was founded in 1940 and was housed in the rectory for a long time. Since 1981 the bank has had its own premises in the former post office building. In 2001 the Raiffeisen banks Alpnach-Kerns-Sarnen merged with the Raiffeisen bank Melchtal. The Melchtal office was closed at the end of 2013.
