The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is an account opened in 1975 Railway Museum . It provides an overview of the history of the railroad in the United States . Located in Strasburg in Lancaster County , Pennsylvania , the museum is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and supported by the Friends of the Railroad Museum . The museum also has a library, an archive and an administration building.

Exhibits

Over 100 historic locomotives and wagons are shown on the museum grounds . The exhibition area is 18 acres (approx. 72,850 m²) including an observation deck. Individual locomotives can also be viewed from below. Most of the exhibits were made available by the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR). Model trains are also shown. Furthermore, individual pieces of railway accessories such as lanterns, clocks and spare parts can be viewed. Some of the antique locomotives have been placed on the National Register of Historic Places .
