Rainald von Bar (Bishop of Chartres)

Rainald von Bar (alternatively sometimes referred to as Reginald von Mousson) († December 9, 1217 ) was Bishop of Chartres from 1182 to 1217 .

Life

Rainald von Bar was a son of Rainald II , his mother was a daughter of Theobald II , through whom he was related as a cousin to Philip II of France. He was also the nephew of Wilhelm von Blois .

He began his spiritual career as a canon at Tours Cathedral . There he was also treasurer until he was elected bishop in 1182. He took part in the Third Crusade . In 1199 he arranged the wedding of Theobald III. with Blanka from Navarre . The latter soon became the de facto regent, which allowed Rainald to exert influence. In 1201, Philip's annulled wife Agnes-Maria von Andechs-Meranien was buried in the monastery of St. Corentin, which belonged to the Diocese of Chartres .

In 1201 he made a donation to Santo Spirito in Sassia , which Honorius III. Documented confirmation in 1217.

In the Albigensian Crusade he was in command of several knights and took part in the siege of Termes Castle (Aude) .

In the episcopate he was the successor to Petrus Cellensis and died in office in 1217.
