Raine Karp

Raine Karp (born July 23, 1939 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian architect.

Life

Raine Karp completed his architecture studies at the State Art Institute of the Estonian SSR ( Estonian Eesti NSV Riiklik Kunstiinstituut ) in 1964 . From 1963 to 1990 he worked for the state architecture firm Eesti Projekt . Then he founded his own architecture office.

With his monumental buildings, which were initially mainly based on Finnish modernism and later on postmodernism, Raine Karp significantly shaped the Tallinn cityscape of the Soviet era. In 1978 he was awarded the title of "Honored Architect of the Estonian SSR".
