Rainer Fliegel

Rainer Fliegel (born March 19, 1953 ) is a former German soccer player who briefly played for BSG Stahl Brandenburg in the GDR Oberliga in 1984/85 .

Athletic career

Fliegel made his debut in the first team of BSG Chemie Leipzig at the age of 23 on the first day of the 1976/77 season of the second-rate GDR league . Of the 22 league games, he played 21 games in which he, used as a striker, scored seven goals. As a season winner, Chemie Leipzig took part in the promotion round to the league, but missed promotion. In the eight qualifying games, Fliegel was involved six times and scored two goals. Also in his second GDR league season 1977/78 Fliegel belonged to the player base, but this time only came to 17 point games, in which he scored six goals. Chemie Leipzig again took part in the league promotion round and failed again. This time Fliegel appeared seven times in the eight promotion games and contributed three goals.

For the 1978/79 season, Fliegel moved to league rivals BSG Stahl Brandenburg . There he continued to play second class until 1984, but was mainly used in the midfield in Brandenburg. In 1982/83 he played with the Brandenburgers for the third time in vain a league promotion round (6 games, 0 goals). The 1983/84 season brought the breakthrough. Fliegel played 21 of 22 point games and seven of the eight promotion games that led to promotion to the league this time. Fliegel, who was already 31 at the time, played his first league game on the second match day of the 1984/85 season, when he was used in the left midfield. He was regularly called up as a midfielder until the tenth match day, missing only once on the seventh match day. Fliegel shot his only top division goal in the eighth top division round in the encounter between BSG Stahl and Motor Suhl (3: 0) to make it 2: 0. On matchday ten, he suffered an injury from which he never fully recovered. He was only used again in the second half of the season, but played only five league point games, of which only one encounter over the full time.

For the league season 1985/86 Fliegel was no longer named in the BSG Stahl Brandenburg's squad without giving reasons. After that, he no longer appeared anywhere else in higher-class football.
