Louis de Montolieu

Louis de Montolieu de Saint Hyppolite (* 1669 in Saint-Hippolyte-de-Caton , † 23 August 1738 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and Sardinian lieutenant general .

Life

Montolieu was a younger son of Pierre de Montolieu, Seigneur of Saint-Hippolyte in Languedoc . After the Edict of Nantes, he initially entered the Dutch service , but a little later into the Savoyard service, where he advanced to major in 1704 and as such was able to distinguish himself militarily against Louis XIV several times . On 16 May 1705 he became a lieutenant colonel of the infantry in the Prussian service over and was on the corps of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Dessau einrangiert. Montolieu took part in the War of the Spanish Succession , in particular the battles at Cassano and Turin . He was promoted to colonel on August 14, 1707 and major general on February 5, 1714. In 1716 he returned to the Savoyard service and in 1720 was promoted to lieutenant general. Montolieu's body was buried in the French Cathedral in Berlin.
