Rainer Hable

Rainer Hable (born May 4, 1972 in Linz ) is an Austrian lawyer and former politician ( NEOS ). From 2013 to 2017 he was a member of the Austrian National Council .

education and profession

Hable attended the modern language branch of a grammar school in Linz and graduated in 1990 in German, English and geography.

He then did his military service as an officer candidate and one-year volunteer with the hunters (1991). He is still active as a militia officer in the military to this day.

He then studied law, business administration and economics at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz (1992–1999). He continued his economics studies in England, where he completed a postgraduate course in finance (MSc Public Financial Policy) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) from 2002–2004 . In 2010 he obtained his doctorate at the Institute for Constitutional Law and Political Science at the University of Linz. iur. (Title: "The borders of the state: State tasks from a constitutional point of view"). He deepened his training in European law at the European University Institute in Florence, at the European Law Academy in Trier and at the European Forum in Alpbach.

Professionally, Hable was an assistant at the University of Linz, where he researched the topic of financial equalization and the Upper Austrian. Provincial government advised (2000). Subsequently, he worked in the General Secretariat of the EU Commission in Brussels (2001), where he was responsible for relations with the Parliamentary Committee on Industry, Research and Energy . After graduating from the LSE, Hable worked in London as Policy Advisor at the UK Department for Transport (2005) and taught public finance at the Economics Department of the London School of Economics and Political Science (2006). After returning to Austria, he completed his legal practice at the Higher Regional Court of Vienna (2007) and subsequently worked for international law firms (2008–2012). As a lawyer, his focus is on European law (constitutional law of the European Union).

Politics and functions

Hable ran for the 2013 National Council election and won a mandate from the Upper Austrian electoral district . He was sworn in as a member of parliament on October 29, 2013 and subsequently took over the functions of group spokesman for EU affairs, national defense, budget, finances and ESM matters in the “Club NEOS Das Neue Österreich and Liberales Forum”.

He was also a member of the National Security Council .

As a financial spokesman, Hable was intensely involved in the Hypo scandal. He initiated the challenge of the Hypo special law at the Constitutional Court. From February 2015 to October 2016 he was the NEOS faction leader in the parliamentary Hypo committee of inquiry . He viewed the cause in particular as a judicial scandal.

In June 2017 it was announced that he would no longer run for NEOS in the 2017 National Council election. Hable therefore resigned at the end of the XXV. Legislative period on November 9, 2017 from the National Council.
