Rainer K. Silbereisen

Rainer K. Silbereisen (born August 24, 1944 in Freudenstadt ) is a German psychologist and has been a professor emeritus at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena since 2012 .

Live and act

Silbereisen studied psychology at the TU Berlin , where he obtained his diploma in 1972 . In 1975 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. Two years later he became a professor for educational psychology at the TU Berlin. In 1986 he moved to a chair for developmental psychology at the University of Giessen . From 1992 to 1994 he was Professor of Human Development and Family Studies, Pennsylvania State University . From 1994 Silbereisen held the full chair for developmental psychology at the University of Jena . From 2000 to 2002 he was chairman of the German Society for Psychology , from 2008 to 2012 president of the International Union of Psychological Science . In 2012 he retired. Since 2013 he has been a research professor at the Center for Applied Developmental Science at the University of Jena.

Silbereisen's main research areas are developmental psychology . There he concentrates particularly on adolescence and adult development, dynamic interactionism, as well as immigration and acculturation . Silbereisen is co-editor of more than 30 monographs and author of more than 350 scientific publications. In 2010 he was awarded the Franz Emanuel Weinert Prize of the German Society for Psychology for his scientific achievements.
