Rainer Pethran (born November 26,  1950 in Augsburg , † September 2, 2019 in Munich ) was a German basketball player .

career

The two-meter-tall winger took part in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich with the German national team. In nine games during the Olympic tournament, he recorded an average of 5.5 points per encounter. A year before the games in Munich, Pethran was also part of the German squad at the European Championship, which was held for the first time in Germany .

At club level, Pethran played for USC Munich in the basketball league , with which he became German runner-up in 1971. There were also European Cup appearances.

After his competitive sports career, he worked as a manager of a consulting and operating company for swimming pools and leisure facilities.
