Rainer Philipp (monument conservator)

Rainer Philipp (born July 21, 1952 in Halle (Saale) ; † November 21, 2013 there ) was a German preservationist .

Life

Philipp grew up in Halle (Saale) and, after completing vocational training as a construction worker, studied construction production at the Cottbus Engineering University , which he graduated in 1979 with a degree in engineering. After activities in water management and mining and private engagement in the working group “Society for Monument Preservation” in the Kulturbund of the GDR , he came to the Halle office of the Institute for Monument Preservation of the GDR in 1987. After 1990 this became the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments of the State of Saxony-Anhalt and in 2004 it merged with the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Archeology in Saxony-Anhalt . He was employed there until his death.

As the responsible specialist, he built up the technical and industrial monument preservation department in the state office after 1990 and was responsible for the assessment and complete re-registration of the extensive inventory of this type of monument in the state of Saxony-Anhalt as well as for practical preservation of buildings and facilities. In the course of his activity, a large number of expert reports, statements and specialist articles of fundamental importance were created.

In 2004, he also took on the role of area manager for the preservation of buildings and art monuments for the area of the Wernigerode district , which is significantly influenced by mining monuments.
