Rainer Pudill
Rainer Pudill is a German numismatist .
Career
Rainer Pudill studied chemistry at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and received his doctorate in 1971 with a dissertation on the synthesis and reactions of certain lactams and cyclopeptides . In his professional life he most recently worked as managing director of a company in the utility and waste disposal industry in North Rhine-Westphalia and as a publicly appointed and sworn expert for environmental issues .
numismatics
Even as a teenager, Pudill was interested in ancient history and ancient numismatics . In retirement, he began studying ancient history with Anthony R. Birley and Bruno Bleckmann and art history with Hans Körner at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . He completed this course in 2005 with his master 's thesis Hadrian's Visit to Egypt 130/131, taking numismatic sources into account .
In addition to articles on various topics in numismatic journals, Pudill published several monographs on ancient numismatics. The focus of his work is on the Roman coins issued under Hadrian after the death of his favorite and presumed lover Antinous in 130. He pays particular attention to the cultural and religious-historical statements of the representations and their role in the cultic veneration of Antinous initiated by Hadrian.
