Rainer Rettig

Rainer Rettig (born December 11, 1953 in Lörzenbach ) is a German physiologist and professor at the University of Greifswald . His professional areas of expertise are cardiovascular regulation , hypertension and kidney functions .

Life

Rettig studied human medicine and biopsychology at the University of Heidelberg and the University of Iowa from 1972 to 1981 . In the meantime, in 1973 and 1974, he worked for the German Red Cross in Heppenheim as a community service provider. His medical state examination as well as the license to practice medicine and doctorate to Dr. med. took place in 1981. He then received a research grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the Institute for Pharmacology at Heidelberg University.

From 1983 to 1985 he worked as a research assistant at the Department of Pharmacology at the University of California . He then worked from 1986 to 1994 as a research assistant and university lecturer at the Institute for Pharmacology at Heidelberg University. Here he completed his habilitation in 1989 in the field of pharmacology and toxicology. From 1994 to 2001 he was university professor for physiology at the University of Greifswald, where he has held the professorship for physiology and is the managing director of the institute for physiology.

Rettig is also a member of the German Institute for High Blood Pressure Research (DIB), the German Hypertension Society (DHL) and the German Physiological Society (DPG). Internationally, he is a member of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH), the European Council for Blood Pressure and Cardiovascular Research , the American Heart Association and the American Physiological Society .

In addition, Rettig served as the dean of studies at the University Medical Center Greifswald until April 2018 and was a member of the scholarship awarding committee of the youth development program named after Gerhard Domagk .
