The Luninez Rajon ( Belarusian Лунінецкі раён ; Russian Лунинецкий район ) is an administrative unit in the east of the Breszkaya Woblasz in Belarus with the administrative center in the city of Luninez . The Rajon has an area of ​​2700 km², includes 82 localities and is divided into 12 Selsawets .

history

The Luninez Rajon was formed in its current borders on January 15, 1940. Its history can be traced back to the 14th century: The oldest village in the Rajons, today's village of Lunin , was first mentioned in 1432, the first mention of Luninez goes back to 1449. A significant role in the economic development of the region in the 19th century can be attributed to the construction of the railway lines in Polesia .
