The missile base Plokštinė (lit. Plokštinės Raketu bazė ) was a rocket launch site (missile base) of the Soviet Army in the USSR , in the woods Plokštinė , near the village Plokščiai , on Lake Plateliai km, 13 north of the city Plunge in today plungė district municipality , district Telšiai , Lithuania . It belonged to the 79th Missile Regiment of the 29th Missile Division of the 50th Missile Army of the Strategic Missile Forces of the Soviet Union (headquarters in Smolensk , Belarus ).

history

The base was erected in Soviet Lithuania from September 1960 to December 31, 1962 and built by the Soviet Army . The base for ballistic missiles equipped with the necessary infrastructure. The missile base was intended for R-12 missiles .

After the end of military use, the site was opened up for tourism. There is now a Cold War Museum ( lit.Saltojo Karo muziejus ) here.
