Ralph Kayser

Ralph Kayser (* 1965 in East Berlin ) is a German orthopedic surgeon, specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery specializing in spinal orthopedics and an adjunct professor at the Medical Faculty of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University in Greifswald . In addition to experimental ultrasound diagnostics and special spinal surgery, his scientific focus is primarily on conservative and minimally invasive spinal treatment.

Life

Kayser studied human medicine from 1987 to 1994 at the Medical Faculty of the Humboldt University Berlin ( Charité ). After his time as an assistant doctor from 1994 to 2000 at the Orthopedic University Clinic Magdeburg and at the Central Clinic Bad Berka, he became a specialist in orthopedics in 2000. After working at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Orthopedics at the University of Leipzig (2001–2002) and the Dessau Municipal Clinic (2002–2004), most recently as senior physician, he completed further training as a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery at the university medicine department between 2004 and 2007 Berlin (Charité). In 2006, Kayser completed his habilitation on the subject of experimental investigations into the instability of the lumbar spine - development of an intraoperatively applicable measuring device for the three-dimensional recording of force-displacement curves on human lumbar movement segments . and in the same year became senior physician at the Center for Special Surgery of the Musculoskeletal System at the Clinic for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at the Charité. He was then deputy from 2008 to 2012. Director of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery at the University Medical Center Greifswald. In 2011, Kayser received a list position 1 on the W2 professorship for orthopedics with a focus on spinal surgery at the University Medical Center Greifswald. He was appointed associate professor in 2013 and was director of the Orthopedic Clinic, Vivantes Clinic in Friedrichshain, Berlin until 2014 . Kayser is currently the head of orthopedics at the Median Klinik Wismar.

Scientific contribution

Kayser's initial scientific contribution focused on pediatric orthopedics and ultrasound diagnostics of the support and movement system. Pioneering work was done here during his work at the Universities of Magdeburg, Leipzig and Berlin (Charité). From the beginning of the 2000s, Kayser devoted himself to his current specialist areas of spinal surgery and minimally invasive spinal therapy as well as non-surgical spinal treatment - injection therapy and manual medicine / chiropractic therapy . He developed graduated diagnostic and therapeutic concepts for the conservative and operative treatment of degenerative diseases of the spine and worked in the field of linking structural and functional pathologies of the support and movement system. A comprehensive assessment of the patient with the development of conservative and operative therapy options “from a single source” is of particular concern to him. Minimally invasive spine therapy is another focus, with the establishment of a combination treatment of intraosseous radiation and radiation therapy (Kypho-IORT) at the University of Greifswald as one of the two centers in Germany.

Memberships in scientific associations

Kayser is a member of the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery (DGOOC) and the Professional Association of Doctors for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (BVOU), the German Spine Society (DWG), the Medical Association for Manual Medicine (ÄMM), the German Society for Manual Medicine . He is a member of the forum of the National Care Guideline "Low Back Pain" and of the "Support and Movement Organs" working group of the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine . Kayser is also the deputy head of the “Conservative Spine Therapy” commission of the German Spine Society.
