Ralph Nelson Elliott (born July 28, 1871 in Marysville , Kansas , † January 15, 1948 ) was an American who developed the Elliott wave theory.

Life

Elliott worked as an accountant for a long time , including for the United States Department of State . From 1932 to 1934 he developed a theory of price movements in stock markets , which is a further development of the Dow theory . It wasn't until he retired due to illness at the age of 67 that he finished most of his work on the rules of the stock market.

Wave theory

The Elliott Wave Theory, which he largely developed, deals with the cycles of the stock market, which is subject to mass psychology . Elliott waves are based on the Fibonacci numbers . According to Elliott's theories, which were based solely on empirically collected data and the resulting intellectual synthesis , a prognosis of future events in the financial markets as well as in society and the state should be at least partially possible. Its proponents express his life's work in the sentence: "Look through the keyhole into the future". This alludes to certain characteristic temporal analogies between the past and the present.
