Ralph Rugoff

Ralph Rugoff (born January 12, 1957 in New York City ) is an American curator and has been the director of the Hayward Gallery in London since 2006 and the curator of the Biennale di Venezia in 2019.

Career

Rugoff's father was a film distributor and his mother was a psychoanalyst . He studied semiotics at Brown University .

Rugoff was director of the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco for almost six years before becoming director of London's Hayward Gallery in 2006 .

Rugoff is artistic director of the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019 .

At the 2019 Birthday Honors, he was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to the arts .
