Ralph Stockman

Ralph Stockman (born August 3, 1861 in Leith , † February 27, 1946 in Edinburgh ) was a Scottish medic and pharmacologist .

Life

The second son of the merchant WJ Stockman attended the Royal High School in Edinburgh. After graduating (MB, 1882) from the University of Edinburgh , he continued his studies in Vienna and Strasbourg . In 1883 and 1889 he taught and researched as an assistant in Edinburgh and then took over a teaching position for Materia Medica in Edinburgh.

From 1897 to 1937 he was Regius Professor of Materia Medica and a leading authority in the field of pharmacology . From 1900 to 1926 he also worked as a doctor for the Western Infirmary in Glasgow. He carried out basic research in the etiology of iron deficiency anemia . He dealt with rheumatic diseases and arthritis .

Stockman was a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the Royal Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and from 1888 the Royal Society of Edinburgh .
