Ralphina D'Almeida

Ralphina D'Almeida (born Ralphina Philott , also Ma D'Almeida or Ralphina A. Phillott-Almeida , born in Bathurst (now Banjul ), died July 4, 2017 ) was a Gambian doctor, teacher and politician.

Life

D'Almeida studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London with Roland Anthony Oliver and obtained a master's degree in history, sociology and political science from the Center of West African Studies at the University of Birmingham with John Donnelly Fage .

She taught at various schools, for example in the 1970s as a history teacher at Armitage Grammar School in Georgetown (now Armitage High School in Janjanbureh ), as well as at St. Joseph's High School and St. Augustine's High School in Banjul. She later served as the assistant principal at Yundum College (now Gambia College ).

From 1988 to 1992 she was Minister for Social Security and Health , and from 1992 to 1994 Undersecretary for Health.

From 2000 to 2012 she was a lecturer in Gender Studies and Development Studies at the University of Gambia . In 2007 she published a collection of short literary forms under the title Poems, stories and Krio proverbs .

She received her PhD from American University in 2014 .
