Ramón Beteta

Ramón Beteta Quintana (born October 7, 1901 in Mexico City , † October 5, 1965 ) was a Mexican ambassador .

Life

His parents were the latifundists Sara Quintana and Enrique Beteta Méndez. His older brother was Ignacio Beteta Quintana , who was Chief of Staff (Estado Mayor Presidencial) of President Lázaro Cárdenas del Río between 1934 and 1939 and then Minister for Public Education ( Secretarío de Educación Pública ) in his government from 1939 to 1940 . His nephew and son of Ignacio Beteta Quintana was the future Minister of Finance and Governor of the State of México Mario Ramón Beteta .

He attended school in Mexico DF. In 1919 he attended the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria (Mexico) and completed his studies in 1920. His high school diploma was recognized by the University of Texas and he received a business degree in 1923. In 1926 he received a law degree from the Escuela Nacional de Jurisprudencia and was awarded a doctorate in social sciences in 1934 . From 1924 to 1942 he was a professor at the newly established Chair of Economics . From 1925 to 1928 he taught at the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria and at high schools in Mexico City . He was a member of the League of Freelancers and Intellectuals of the Partido de la Revolución Mexicana . He was the campaign manager of Miguel Alemán Valdés and in the cabinet of three presidents. From 1933 to 1935 he headed the Departamento de Estadística Nacional , in the Secretaría de Industria y Comercio . In 1934 he represented the Mexican government at an international congress on statistics in London.

From 1936 to 1940 he was State Secretary in the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores . In 1936 he represented the Mexican government at the Conferencia Interamericana de Consolidación de Paz in Buenos Aires. In 1940 he represented the Mexican government at a technicians' congress in Washington.

From 1940 to 1945 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. Ramón Beteta Quintana was Finance Minister in the cabinet of Miguel Alemán Valdés from 1946 to 1952 .

In 1951 he was against Adolfo Ruiz Cortines for the presidency. From 1958 to 1964 he headed the daily newspapers Novedades , Diario de la tarde and The News de la Ciudad de México .
