The Ramas Schengelia Stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the second largest Georgian city of Kutaisi , capital of the Imereti region . It has hosted the home games of the Torpedo Kutaisi football club , currently in the country's top division, the Erovnuli League , since it opened . The facility bears the name of the Kutaisi-born football player Ramas Schengelia (1957–2012).
history
The draft was available in 1948. Construction work began the following year, but the progress of construction was very slow. In 1956, most of the stadium was completed. It should take until May 2nd, 1962 for the opening. In 1998 the sports facility was renovated. In 2010, the Ramas Schengelia Stadium was converted into a seating stadium and the main stand was roofed over to meet UEFA 's requirements. Of the previous 19,400 places, 12,000 remained in the stands. The name changed with the renovation. The Kutaisi central stadium became the Giwi Kiladze Stadium, a locally known athlete, by 2015. It currently offers 14,700 seats in the stands. The playing field consists of natural grass , but there is no underfloor heating .
