Ramesh Mehta (actor)

Ramesh Mehta ( Gujarati : રમેશ મહેતા ; born June 23, 1934 in Navagam , Gondal ; † May 11, 2012 in Rajkot , Gujarat ) was an Indian film actor and screenwriter (dialogue writer ) of the Gujarati film.

Life

Mehta was born in the village of Navagam near Gondal on the Kathiawar peninsula, the son of Girdharlal Bhimji Mehta. Without leaving school, he began working at small local theaters, and in the early 1950s he went to Bombay, where he worked as a lighting technician and received a brief theater education. After that he earned his living as a scribe writer.

He wrote his first screenplay for the film Hastamelap (1969) by Jasubhai Trivedi. He wrote further works as a dialogue author for Jesal Toral (1971), Raja Bharathari (1973), Ghunghat (1974) and Hothal Padamani (1974). Over time, Mehta herself got supporting roles as a comedian. He had his acting breakthrough in Ravindra Dave's Jesal Toral (1971), a successful remake of a legend from the Kachchh region in Eastmancolor. As a film comedian, Ramesh Mehta was one of the best-known actors in Gujarati films alongside Upendra Trivedi . In Gujarati productions of the 1970s and 1980s he also appeared frequently alongside Arvind Trivedi , Manjaree Desai , Rajnibala and Kalpana Divan .
