history

According to tradition, the first inhabitants were Celts, who were expelled by the Romans in the year 0. It was not until 300 AD that the Romans were again defeated and ousted by the Alemanni. As the years went by, settlement became denser and a number of small settlements and villages emerged around AD 500.

Since Offenburg was always one of the largest theaters of war in the Ortenau, surrounding villages were also drawn into acts of war. Rammersweier was attacked and burned down by the Swedes on February 22nd, 1632 (popularly known as the Schwedensturm ). After the Thirty Years' War , many soldiers stayed in the region. Offenburg and thus also Rammersweier were attacked in subsequent wars. E.g. in the Dutch-Spanish War around 1675, the French Revolution and the associated conflicts around 1792 to 1799.

During the First World War there were attacks on Offenburg's railway site, which is close to Rammersweier, whereupon Rammersweier itself became a battleground. An anti-aircraft station with around 100 soldiers was set up in Rammersweier, and then French bombers dropped around 20 bombs on Rammersweier. Almost 50 citizens from Rammersweier died as soldiers in the First World War.

During the Second World War, the bombing raids concentrated on the supply and repair works; Several houses in Rammersweier were destroyed in the bombing raids. The French marched into Offenburg on April 15, 1945, and in May Rammersweier was also taken by the French. In this terrible war one mourned the death of 75 soldiers.

On December 1, 1971, Rammersweier was incorporated into Offenburg.
