Fessenbach is a district of Offenburg and lies at the foot of the Black Forest . It is surrounded by vines, fields and forest.

geography

Fessenbach is one of the eleven districts of Offenburg and is located in the east of the city. It is surrounded by vineyards and the first mountains of the Black Forest and is about 200 meters above sea level. Fessenbach's local mountain, the "Hohe Horn", is 546.1  m above sea level. NHN high mountain southeast of the village. The village is favored by the mild climate of the Rhine Valley, so that high-quality wines thrive here. The brook "Fessenbach" flows through the village. You can reach Fessenbach from Ortenberg in the Kinzigtal, the large district town of Offenburg and the neighboring Offenburger district of Zell-Weierbach.

history

Fessenbach was mentioned for the first time on April 3, 1242 in a document from the Strasbourg bishop. The lost moated castle Fessenbach in the northwest was first mentioned in 1245. The name of the village changed a few times:

In September 1809 Fessenbach, which until then belonged to a staff from Zell, Riedle, Weierbach and Oberrammersweier, was declared an independent municipality by the Offenburg District Office. On January 1, 1971, Fessenbach was incorporated into Offenburg.

Political

Fessenbach is a district of the large district town of Offenburg, but has its own local council that elects a local councilor. Currently (as of 2020) Paul Litterst (CDU) is mayor of Fessenbach and city councilor of Offenburg.
