Ramtel is a district on the eastern outskirts of Leonberg in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

In terms of its natural surroundings, Ramtel is located, like the Leonberg town center, a little further in this direction, on the north-western edge of the sub-area Glemswald-Randhöhen of the Glemswald . It stands on the right slope of the valley of the Glems, which has just emerged from the Inner Glemswald, and on the subsequent high plateau of the small spur Bock at heights of about 370 to 475  m above sea level. NHN . In the subsurface there are middle keuper layers, mostly the gypsum keuper ( grave field formation ), on the highest positions on the north-eastern edge after the last of three close, almost parallel fault lines the geologically much higher parlor sandstone ( Löwenstein formation ) seamlessly .

A measuring table sheet from the 1920s shows no settlement in the area of today's district.

Urban development

Before the war there were only a few houses here. The area was separated from Leonberg and Eltingen by the Reichsautobahn . In the post-war period , mainly terraced and multi-family houses were built. The newly arrived residents were mostly refugees from the former eastern regions. In the late 1970s, upscale residential areas were added on the hillside. Due to the high price of land, the development is also comparatively dense here. Industrial buildings on the eastern edge of the district have been partially replaced by office buildings in recent years.

Examples of interesting architecture from the 1960s are the August-Lämmle-Schule and the nearby Church of Reconciliation. The quality of life in the Ramtel district has improved significantly thanks to the construction of the base tunnel for Autobahn 81 . Nevertheless, Ramtel is a residential area without a town center and without an established infrastructure. There are shopping opportunities due to the settlement of several discounters, a pharmacy, an optician, a bakery, a butcher and a beverage shop.

Between 1961 and 1993 the architect Karl-Hans Neumann lived in the Ramtel, one of the most important architects of the post-war period in Baden-Württemberg. Among other things, he built the Brother Klaus Church (community center Klaus-van-der-Flüe) and the Dillmann High School in Stuttgart, for which he and the architect Peter Salzbrenner received the Paul Bonatz Prize.
